Abstract:
The first European plug & play gridded ion engine standardised electric propulsion platform
The EU-funded GIESEPP MP project (Space-28-TEC-2020) will continue the activity started under COMPET-3-2016-a. The project will develop, build and test the first European plug and play gridded ion engine standardised electric propulsion platform (GIESEPP) to use for ArianeGroup ion engines with the option of alternative thrusters, for a medium-power application. GIESEPP MP will reach technology readiness level 6/7 with partial qualification to allow flight readiness, optimise industrialisation, increase the GIE systems’ production capacities and significantly reduce the recurring costs. It will thus advance the design and development of a standardised electric propulsion platform for geostationary orbit applications. As such, GIESEPP-MP will significantly contribute to increasing European space industry competitiveness.
