The paper reports observations on nightly roost occupation by adult male Daubenton’s bats during late summer in a study area in Hesse (Central Germany). Heavy individuals in good reproductive condition (high degree of distension of the caudae epididymides) spent more of the night time in the roost than lighter ones. Most of the analysed roosts (9 of 11) were either occupied by solitary males or a single male accompanied by adult females and young of the year. Matings were observed between captured individuals kept together in a cage. Our findings provide circumstantial evidence for the existence of mating roosts in M. daubentonii at summer sites.
