This chapter provides some methods for longitudinal analysis that can be used to test different types of propositions and outlines new insights for substantive research. It introduces the specifications of authoritarianism and anomia and explicates some alternative causal models for the constructs. The chapter presents the key characteristics of autoregressive cross-lagged (AR-CL) and latent growth curve (LGC). It discusses how autoregressive cross-lagged and latent growth curve models can be used to investigate the questions. The chapter describes the sample and indicators of the latent constructs. It also presents the empirical findings from the AR-CL including latent means and intercepts and LGC. The chapter examines the dynamics of authoritarianism and anomia using data from a nationally representative three-wave panel survey in Germany. It concludes with a summary of the substantial findings, a comparative evaluation of the different contribution of the some methods and focuses on developments on the integration of complementary methods for the analysis of panel data.
