Abstract

We present a new class of catalysts based on the combination of N,N′-diaryl(thio)ureas and weak silicon Lewis acids (e.g., SiCl4). Such silicon−(thio)urea catalysts effectively catalyze the stereospecific rearrangement of epoxides to quaternary carbaldehydes.
