Abstract

The current knowledge of a potential endangering of man by microorganisms originating from pigeon faeces was described in the first part of this article. Now, the results of measurements of airborne microorganisms during cleaning processes of pigeon faeces are presented here. Dependent on extent and age of pollution as well as on the type of. the cleaning process the following maximum concentrations of airborne microorganisms were detected [Agar (incubation temperature) in CFU m(-3) (CFU, colony forming units)]: CaSo (36 degreesC) 10(7), DG18 (25 degreesC) 10(7) molt extract (45 degreesC) 10(3), Solmonella-Shigella (36 degreesC) 10(6), MocConkey (36 degreesC) 10(5), Campylobacter (36 degreesC) 10(4) and yeasts on Sabouraud (36 C) 10(5). Bacteria cultivated on MacConkey- and Salmonella-Shigello-Agar were mainly assigned to risk group 2. Chlomydophila psittaci (risk group 3) were only detected qualitatively in some bioaerosols.
