Abstract
Matrix-assisted laser desorption is reviewed as a new mass spectrometrical technique for the high mass range up to m/z 300 000. The method is described and a short summary of recent applications is presented. Investigations on the mechanisms of laser desorption mass spectrometry of biopolymers are reviewed and general conclusions from the results yet acquired are summarized. A short review of the possible applicability of post-source decay to the analysis of structures is given.
