The knowledge of the amount of granular biopersistent dusts (GBP) within the respirable dust fraction (A-fraction) is interesting for a workplace risk assessment. Solubility experiments are expected to evaluate a workable method to determinate the soluble content ("non-GBP-amount") of the A-fraction of workplace-relevant dusts. Therefore in the course of these investigations a standardized dust mixture was prepared from compounds of different chemical compositions and particle sizes. After characterization of the standardized dust mixture solubility experiments with selected solvents were performed on practice-relevant filters. The variables filter material, pore width, solvent, particle size and agglomerate behaviour etc. have an effect on the results of the solubility experiments and complicate the evaluation of a praxis-relevant method.
