Large amounts of hydrocarbons (including chlorinated hydrocarbons and polychlorinated biphenyls) entered the soil environment on the industrial site of the farmer waste oil refinery Pintsch-Ö1 GmbH, Hanau (1). It is intended to apply microbiological treatment methods to decontaminate the polluted soil (2,4). For parallel investigations on microbial waste-oil degradation, five in situ cells were built bordered by slurry sealing walls and connected with the groundwater cleaning circuit.
