Abstract:
Reactions of the organotin selenide chloride clusters [((RSnIV)-Sn-1)(3)Se4Cl] (A, R-1 = CMe2CH2C(O)Me) or [((RSnIV)-Sn-1)(4)Se-6] (B) with [Cu(PPh3)(3-x)Cl-x] yield cluster compounds with different inorganic, mixed-valence core structures: [(Cu4SnSn6Se12)-Sn-II-Se-IV], [(Cu2Sn2Sn4Se8Cl2)-Sn-II-Se-IV], [(Cu2SnSn4Se8)-Sn-II-Se-IV], [(Cu2Sn2Sn2Se4Cl4)-Sn-II-Se-IV], and [(Cu2Sn2Se4)-Se-IV]. Five of the compounds, namely [(CuPPh3)(2){((RSnIV)-Sn-1)(2)Se-4}] (1), [(CuPPh3)(2)Sn-II{((RSnIV)-Sn-2)(2)Se-4}(2)] (2), [(CuPPh3)(2)((SnCl)-Cl-II)(2){(RSnIV)(2)Se-4}(2)] (3) [(CuPPh3)(2)((SnCu2)-Cu-II){((RSnIV)-Sn-1)(2)Se-4}(3)] (4), and [Cu(CuPPh3)((SnCu2)-Cu-II){((RSnIV)-Sn-1)(2)Se-4}(3)] (5) are structurally closely related. They are based on [(CuPPh3)(2){(RSnIV)(2)Se-4}(n)] aggregates comprising [(RSnIV)(2)Se-4] and [CuPPh3] building units, which are linked by further metal atoms. A sixth compound, [(CuPPh3)(2)((SnCl)-Cl-II)(2){((RSnCl)-Sn-1-Cl-IV)Se-2}(2)] (6), differs from the others by containing [((RSnCl)-Cl-IV)Se-2] units instead, which affects the absorption properties. The compounds were analyzed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, NMR and Sn-119 Mossbauer spectroscopy, DFT calculations as well as optical absorption experiments.
