Abstract
The expansion of wind turbines is accompanied by a wide range of negative effects. In addition to the emission of tonal noise and dangers to the avifauna, wind turbines are increasingly criticized for redefining the specific characteristics of landscapes. This fact, which is primarily due to the height and the rotor movement, is in direct contrast to the near-natural landscape experience, as is practiced mainly in the German middle mountain regions within the scope of tourist recreation. The present study investigates the effects of wind turbines on regional tourism using a quantitative empirical approach.
