Abstract
Based on an ethnographic study that focused on eleven male Muslims (aged between 13 and 16 years) from a traditional milieu of migrants, the article examines the youths' construction of male gender identity in the context of informal physical activities. The data indicate that the young men experience and defend the self-organized sport as a male sphere of activity, in which they have the possibility to confirm their male gender identity and reproduce dominance-oriented imaginations of masculinity, which their own families typically exemplify.
