Abstract:
Thermoelectric (TE) materials are able to convert directly thermal into electrical energy and can therefore contribute to an increase in efficiency of energy applications, autarcic power sources or to convert industrial waste heat into electricity for powering electrical system components. Actual commercially available TE converter modules are usable for application temperatures of maximum 250 degrees C. A large quantity of the waste heat in technical systems is available at higher temperatures. Thermoelectric generators (TEG) for hot side temperatures between 400 and 500 degrees C are under development internationally. The evaluation of utilizing industrial waste heat for electrical power generation using TEG requires the identification and quantification of unused heat flows of the individual industrial system. According to the temperature range specifically adapted TEG modules and systems are necessary.
