Purpose: We evaluated the efficacy of biomechanical stimulation therapy (BMS) in fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS). Methods: 15 participants received 20 min of BMS therapy of the tender points near the humeral epicondyles 3 times a week for 6 weeks, 13 participants received a sham treatment with a disconnected probe according to the same scheme. We evaluated local and global pain by visual analogue scale, muscular strength of the muscle groups inserting at the epicondyli by means of muscle function tests as well as quality of life and physical functioning by fibromyalgia impact questionnaire and FIBRO change scale. Results: Both after 6 weeks of treatment and at the end of a 12-week follow-up period there were no significant changes within and between the treatment groups. Conclusions: It can be concluded that although BMS of tender points is well tolerated, it is not suited for improving local or global symptoms and physical function in FMS patients.
