Abstract
The German criminal code (StGB) contains various penal provisions, which serve to punish maltreatment and violence against children and adolescents. This article deals with different forms of offences from different chapters of the StGB: breach of duty in respect of care and supervision, abandonment of children and physical injury. On the basis of examples from the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court, individual crime forms and problems are described. The historical development of parental corporal punishment of children will be analyzed. Additionally some occupational aspects for physicians and experts will be described.
