Abstract
This paper summarizes the algebraic quotient ideal approach to polynomial generation by refinable functions and connects it to Strang-Fix conditions and factorization with respect to difference operators. Motivated by the latter one, we also consider vector subdivision schemes with matrix valued coefficients and review some of their properties. (C) 2008 Published by Elsevier B.V.
