Abstract
Even for oxides like BO4Nb with simple crystal structures, one cannot answer the question whether this is a borate, a niobate or a double oxide. Are oxides like RbNa2AuO2 and analogous compounds like Na3AuO2 really oxoaurates? With the aid of a new concept based on Long Range Order a quantitative characterisation of crystal structures is possible and the afore-mentioned questions can be answered. By "Oxidative Addition", from KAu + Na2O2, already at 430 degreesC clear colourless single crystals with a light sky-blue hue of the previously unknown oxide RbNa2AuO2 are obtained (Ag-cylinder, closed by an Ag cone, Ar, extremely dry, Supremax-glass ampoule, annealed for 10 days). As with KNa2AuO2, linear dumbbells [OAuO], rick-rack-sheets {O-1/2(NaO)O-1/2} and planar PdCl2-like chains O2/2RbO2/2 are present. These can be said as to have each one O from two other chains as additonal ligands, which are but really far more away. Now we would have a three-dimensional framework RbO6/3! - According to the structural geometry, no 'oxoaurate(I)' is present.
