Abstract
For a first time gamma-Li-4[SiO4] has been obtained (from the binary oxides at 600 degreesC) as colourless single crystals. Structure determination from single crystal data (P (1) over bar, a = 751.9 pm, b = 564.8 pm; c = 503.1 pm; alpha = 124.15degrees; beta = 97.18degrees; gamma = 100.26degrees; R-w = 0.052) shows that gamma-Li-4[SiO4] is isotypic with Na-4[SnO4]. Comparisons of MAPLE-data prove the accuracy of the structure solution. Various routes for the synthesis of other different modifications of Li-4[SiO4] are described. For a first time the new concept of 'connectivity' is discussed and a new model for the quantification of isotypism is proposed.
