Abstract
At first sight, concepts of self-directed learning appear to be the product of a specific reception of constructivism in the field of adult education. The author, however, supports the thesis that this intra-scientific assimilation of constructivism and the propagation of self-controlled learning in adult education ought to be considered reactions to imperatives of modernization. Concepts of self-directed learning are accompanied by a deprofessionalization strategy - a change in the forms of organization as well as in the logic and the structure of action in adult education, wich is due to modernization imperatives. Finally, the author discusses perspectives of change in practices of learning.
