Abstract:
In order to identify improved sorghum varieties for smallholder farmers, 85 promising varieties were evaluated at three locations. Thirteen varieties were selected on the basis of grain yield, resistance to drought, aphids and stern borers, as well as seed characteristics such as seed and flour colour, endosperm texture, kernel hardness and seed mass. The selected varieties should be evaluated on-farm in order to test their adaptability under low-input farming conditions.
