Abstract: 
Papillomas of yet unknown aetiology are found in the gastrointestinal tract, especially in the cloaca, of parrots (internal papillomatosis of parrots, IPP). Recently, various authors have suggested that IPP may be related to the herpesvirus that causes Pacheco's parrot disease. Long-term studies on IPP diseased birds also found a high incidence of bile duct and pancreas tumors in these animals. Considering these new aspects of this disease, our clinic for birds and reptiles developed an examination and treatment protocol for IPP-positive birds three years ago. The results of the three year study are presented with regards to tumor development and longevity in IPP-positive animals as well as our experience with an autogenous vaccine.
