Abstract
The lack of an adequate instrument to measure computer-specific causal explanations supported the objective of this study to develop a computer-specific attributions questionnaire and to investigate its psychometric properties. The Computer Attributions Questionnaire attempts to measure interindividual differences in attributions of success and Failure on internal. global, stable, and controllable causes. The questionnaire was administered to 175 students to assess the reliability of each scale, which was confirmed by alpha-coefficients which ranged from .67 to .83. Data from another sample (n = 200) supported the assumption that the scales are unidimensional. Finally, significant correlations between the attribution scales and a measure of self-concept of ability to use computers and causal explanations in a specific situation supported the criterion-oriented validity of this questionnaire.
