Abstract
We study a population of interacting species within the replicator model of theoretical biology. For systems with a large number of species and random interactions, the dynamics will typically converge to a single fixed point when a control parameter, the cooperation pressure is above a critical value. Below this critical point, the dynamics shows a stochastic behaviour allowing for a recovery of species which were almost extinct. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
