Abstract
Intrauterine blood transfusion via chordocentesis starting in the 25 th week of pregnancy is a common therapy for fetal anaemia. Due to an increased resolution in ultrasound it is now possible to perform chordocentesis and fetal transfusion even in the 18th week of pregnancy. As these fetuses normally present with severe anaemia due to a high rh-antibody concentration in the maternal circulation, chordocentesis and transfusion interval must be shortened from 14 days in late pregnancies to 7-10 days in these early pregnancies.
