Abstract
In this paper, we study the inelastic electron scattering, which originates from the non-linear Compton scattering, by an intense laser beam of Hermite-Gaussian (0,1) mode. It is found that the inelastic effect in this mode is much more prominent than that in the Hermite-Gaussian (0,0) mode. Another interesting result is that the electron can be trapped by the intense laser beam. These phenomena have been explained qualitatively from the spatial structure of the laser beam intensity and the general characteristics of the inelastic electron scattering. The potential interest of our studies can be found in the experimental research on the non-linearity in free-electron-multi-photon interactions.
