Abstract
Due to increasing dynamics of markets and decreasing innovation cycles most companies are looking for new organizational forms. They enforce a trend towards decentralized internal structures and towards interorganizational cooperations (e.g., Virtual Corporations). Irrespective of the level on which autonomous organizational units cooperate, the main objective is to get use of the attainable synergetic effects and to guarantee individual advantages for each participant in cooperations. This suggests the use of market-like coordination mechanisms. Multi-Agent-Systems (MAS) are able to model such organizational structures and to maintain and coordinate the local intentions of the autonomous units with respect to a global goal. Using a detailed requirements specification concerning market-like coordination mechanisms, in this paper a mechanism for MAS is developed based on an analysis of simple auctions. This multi-staged extended Vickrey auction (MEVA) encourages the formation of cooperations by suitable incentive structures.
