Abstract:
Bacteria were isolated from the rhizosphere of oilseed rape (Brassica napus L. ssp. oleifera METZG. SINSK.). A total of 2,045 bacterial isolates were screened for their ability to inhibit in vitro the growth of the phytopathogenic fungus Verticillium dahliae var. longisporum STARK, an important soil-borne pathogen of rapt. About 16 % (333 of the isolates) showed antifungal effects. Thirty isolates were selected and determined for further investigations, 12 different bacterial species were identified. Several of the bacterial species listed (Bacillus subtilis, Burkholderia cepacia, Pseudomonas aureofaciens, P. chlororaphis Sphingomonas paucimobilis, Flavobacterium indologenes, Pantoea agglomerans and Serratia rubidaea) have not been reported previously as antifungal rhizosphere bacteria of rape. Burkholderia cepacia, Flavobacterium indologenes and Serratia rubidaea were estimated as new antagonists of Verticillium dahliae. We proved the involvement of antibiotics, lyric enzymes and siderophores produced by bacteria in the antagonism to V. dahliae, which was specific for each strain.
