Abstract
The production rates of neighboring short lived nuclides can vary over many orders of magnitude. In order to introduce a species of low production rate into a radioactive ion beam facility it is necessary to use an isotope separator whose mass cross contamination is extremely small. Such systems are discussed here featuring two magnetic sector-field stages at different electrostatic potentials as well as bunching capabilities. Such bunching allows to match the ion beam to an RF-accelerator and at the same time to purify the beam by a velocity separation.
