Abstract:
Sensitivity to triadimefon was tested with 120 isolates of six races from field population of barley powdery mildew by means of their ED50 values. For the total of all isolates of the races, three significantly different groups of sensitivity emerged (sensitive, intermediate, insensitive) practically with normal distribution within the groups. For some of the absolute fitness parameters tested, there were some positive or negative though not significant regressions due to high variability of the ED50 values across the races. Within races, this variability is smaller and the relation between fitness parameters and levels of sensitivity to the fungicide are sometimes significant. This variability of sensitivity within races is the basis for selection by risk fungicides towards higher insensitivity of a pathogen population. For this reason, no general conclusion about the level of sensitivity in a pathogen population can be drawn from single colony isolates.
