REACTION OF HYBRIDOTRISPYRAZOLYLBORATOMOLYBDENUM COMPLEXES OF TYPE [TPMO(CO)2(MU-4-DIENE]+ WITH SINGLE-ELECTRON DONOR REAGENTS

Abstract
The cationic molybdenum-diene complexes [TpMo(CO)2(eta-4-1,3-cyclohexadiene)]+ 1a, [Tp*Mo (CO)2(eta-4-1,3-cyclohexadiene)]+ 1b and [TpMo(CO)2(eta-4-1,3-cycloheptadiene)]+ 4, with the relatively bulky Tp or Tp* ligands, are treated with single-electron donors such as cobaltocene, lithium naphthalenide and lithium 2,4,6-tri-t-butylphenolate. While compounds 1a and 1b are exclusively reduced to the neutral allyl complexes eta-3-cyclohexenylhydridotrispyrazolylboratomolybdenumdicarbonyl (3a) and eta-3-cyclohexenylhydridotris-(3,5-dimethylpyrazolyl)-boratomolybdenumdicarbonyl (3b) respectively, the reaction of 4 yields a mixture of the complexes eta-3-cycloheptenylhydridotrispyrazolylboratomolybdenumdicarbonyl (5) and 4,5-di-dehydro eta-3-cycloheptenylhydridotrispyrazolylboratomolybdenumdicarbonyl (6). Interestingly, a similar behavior of 1 and 4 is observed on reaction with amines such as triethylamine or LDA.
