Abstract
Within a covariant BUU approach we evaluate perturbatively the production of K+ mesons from baryon-baryon collisions and analyse its sensitivity to the nuclear equation of state. At 1 GeV/u we find the K+ yield to increase by a factor of three for central collisions of Au+Au when decreasing the nuclear incompressibility from 380 to 210 MeV while keeping the nucleon effective mass in line with transverse momentum distributions as a function of rapidity. We furthermore present detailed predictions for the experiments of the KAOS group at SIS.
