The influence of the drying-time (0 to 70 hours at 40-degrees-C) was studied on a loess-loam soil. The extraction of soil samples for determination of N-fractions was done using 0.01 M CaCl2-method. The following results were obtained: - Drying at 40-degrees-C for 70 hours increased all N-fractions in the soils. - A significant increase in the NO3--content after air-drying and a significant decrease after drying at 105-degrees-C was found compared to the field-fresh soil samples. - A good agreement was found in the NO3-- and NH4+-contents in soil samples, dried at 40-degrees-C, and field-fresh samples. - Drying at 105-degrees-C resulted in a significant increase of NH4+ and N(org) compared to the other drying-treatments.
