Abstract

Colourless single crystals of the hitherto unknown flourides EuSnF7 and YSnF7 (P 2(1)) have been obtained: a=605.6(1) pm, b=562.8(1) pm, c=817.5(1) pm and beta = 103.09(2)-degrees ("sealed platinum tube"; 28d; 780-degrees-C; EuF3/SnF4 with Eu:Sn=1:1).Four-circle-diffractometer Siemens AED 2, MoK(alpha)-, R=4.19% and R(W)=3.66% with 2039 of 2039 I0 (hkl) for EuSnF7 and a=595.40(9) pm, b=556.46(7) pm, c=805.7(1) pm and beta=103.32(1)-degrees(from mixtures YF3/Metallic Sn/CuF2 with Y:Sn:Cu=1:1:2). Four-circle-diffractometer SIEMENS AED 2, MoK(alpha)-, R=3.45% and R(W)=3.28% with 1476 of 1522 I0 (hkl) for YSnF7).

The monoclinic fluorides are isotypic with SmZrF7. The complex structure is built up by quadratic-antiprismatic MF8-polyhedra (M=Eu, Y) and SnF6-octahedra.

The Madelung Part of Lattice Energy, MAPLE, "Mean Fictive Ionic Radii, MEFIR", and "Effective Coordination Numbers, ECoN", as well as the Charge Distribution, CHARDI, are calculated and discussed.
