Abstract: 
We present results of the first nonperturbative calculation of eta-meson production in heavy-ion collisions from 0.8 to 2 GeV/u bombarding energy. In this calculation mean-field effects as well as the dynamic population of nucleon resonances and their decay are taken into account. The results obtained are compared with very recent experiments at 1 GeV/u and are analyzed with respect to the time development of the hadronic composition of the reaction volume.
