Abstract
Photolysis of iodo- (3a), bromo- (3b), and chlorodimethyl sulfide (3c) in an argon matrix at 12 K gives rise to isomeric species 4a - c. Ab initio calcultions indicate that in these isomers the halogen has been removed from the carbon atom and forms a weak bond to the sulfur atom. This conclusion is based on the comparison of observed and calculated IR spectra of the photoisomers.
