Abstract
Experimental data of the Plastic Ball group are analysed within a fully covariant transport model. A filter program. which simulates the detector acceptance, is applied to the calculations. Its effect on observables and some of its possible shortcommings are discussed. Including the full filter, the model reproduces the data very well. Up to bombarding energies of 400 MeV/u the present observables do not allow to extract the properties of the nuclear mean field, i.e. its momentum and density dependence, with the accuracy needed for a proper determination of the nuclear equation of state.
