Abstract:
The influence of the humus content on the EUF N fractions and the EUF N(org) quotients was investigated on 93 sites (46 arable soils, 47 vineyards). The nitrate as well as the EUF N(org) fraction were positively correlated to the humus content of the top soil, the correlation coefficients varying during the vegetation period (Tables 1 and 2). The positive relations between EUF nitrate and humus (Table 1) and EUF N(org) and humus (Table 2) resp. were though not close enough to reflect the influence of humus on the EUF N fractions. Only multiple regression equations could show that both EUF N fractions are significantly positively related to humus content (Table 3). The relationships between both EUF N fractions and humus could further be improved by including the EUF N(org) quotients into the multiple regression equation (Table 4). Thus the practical experience on the importance of humus on the N supply of soils is reflected by the EUF N fractions and the EUF N(org) quotient as well as by their interactions.
