Abstract
By using the characteristic function of the master equation of a one-dimensional harmonic oscillator with dissipation in the framework of the Lindblad theory for open quantum systems, analytical expressions for the first two moments of coordinates and momenta are obtained. It is shown that the centroids and variances of the charge equilibration mode observed in deep inelastic reactions are well described by the corresponding overdamped solutions.
