Abstract
The activities of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase and pyrroline carboxylate reductase are increased ca four-fold in water stressed epidermal tissue and in primary leaves of barley but activity of glutamate dehydrogenase (GDH) was not affected by the stress treatment. Proline concentration increased about three- and 2.3-fold in epidermal tissue and in intact leaves respectively as the relative water content decreased.
