Abstract
This paper discusses the available data base for electron-impact ionization of ions of Ti, Cr, Fe, Ni and Cu. The importance of investigating the physics of ionization as a necessary condition for a sound prediction of cross sections is emphasized. Recent progress in the understanding of electron-impact ionization phenomena is briefly reviewed.
