Abstract
The droplet size had an essential effect on the efficiency of suspension fertilizers. In pot and field experiments the application of small droplets reduced dry matter yields and N uptake, which is obviously due to increased NH3 volatilization. No significant differences occurred between large droplets and solid fertilizer. The effect of droplet size was usually greater at 50 kg N/ha compared with 100 kg N/ha. A comparison of different species with erectophile and planophile phyllotaxis showed an interaction between droplet size and growth habit, which is probably applicable also to other components of the sward.
