Abstract
Colourless crystals of K4Be3O5 resulted by heating intimate mixtures of KO0,51 and BeO (K:Be = 4.4:3) in tightly closed Ni-tubes. The crystal structure was determined (four-circle diffractometer data, MoK-alpha-BAR, 1342 von 1342 I/(hkl), R = 6.1%, R(w) = 3.0%. The new beryllate crystallizes monoclinic (Spacegroup C2(c) with a = 1038.1(3), b = 722.8(2), c = 1078.8(3) pm, beta = 118.36(1)degrees (Guinier Simon powder data), Z = 4. Concerned to the chain infinity 1[O2BeO2BeOBe] the alternately sequence of the coordination number 4/3/3 is characteristic. The Madelung Part of Lattice Energy, MAPLE, and Effective Coordination Numbers, ECoN, these calculated via Mean Fictive Ionic Radii, MEFIR, are given.
