Abstract
Let S = {v:v = 0 or 1 (mod 3), v greater-than-or-equal-to 6.} Then S is PBD - closed and U = {v:v = 0 or 1 (mod 3), 6 less-than-or-equal-to v less-than-or-equal-to 40, v not-equal 31} union {45, 46, 51, 52, 58, 69, 93, 94, 99} is known to be a generating set for S, where all members of U satisfying v less-than-or-equal-to 45 are essential in any generating set for S. It is shown here that, in any generating set for S, 52 is also essential, 58 and 99 are inessential, and 51 is inessential if and only if there exists a BIBD(51, 6, 1).
