Abstract:
Ooencyrtus albicrus (Prinsloo) and Anastatus sp. (Hym., Eupelmidae) are reported as egg parasitoids of the coconut bug Pseudotheraptus wayi Brown. Even though a significant negative correlation between the population density of P. wayi and the rate of parasitism by O. albicrus was observed, parasitism under natural conditions was not high enough to keep the bug under the very low threshold levels of 0,14 or 0,28 bugs per palm. Studies on the biology and on alternative hosts of O. albicrus as well as the results of a test release suggest a high potential of this parasitoid for the control of P. wayi by mass releases.
