Abstract

Radiative electron capture in relativistic ion-atom collisions is studied by describing the ‘‘active’’ electron in the combined field of the target and projectile. This two-center effect introduces important changes in the radiative recombination process at very high impact velocities. Estimations are given for the parameters of interest to planned measurements of electron capture from the vacuum.
