Abstract
The results of this investigation prove that Phorodon humuli does not require a distanct flight phase before settling on the winter hosts: Clssified according to the distance from hops, 86% of the plants up to 20 m were colonized, only 43% of the plants in a range from 20 to 100 m, 25% in the 100-1000 m class and only 17% with more than 1000 m distance. These results were obtained with Prunus domestica. P. padus was not colonized at all and with P. spinosa in only the first two classes ranging up to 100 m distance settling could be demonstrated, but at a low level of 7 and 8% respectively. Observations of a single tree demonstrate a loss of more than 90% of the fundatrices in advance of colony-formation. Furthermore, a preference of those parts of the tree with a southern orientation for settling, egg-laying and colony-formation was shown and this could be confirmed by observations with other trees in the following years.
