Abstract
Based on the apparent infection rate r [of Erysiphe graminis f. s. hordei], two equations are proposed as selection rates ci and Ci, respectively. They are related to different reference bases and describe the speed of the selection process due to resistance, fungicides, and weather in detectable subpopulations (e.g., races, fungicide resistant strains) between two dates. Both rates can estimate the relative fitness w. It is, however, suggested to quote the size of the subpopulation yt .cntdot. fit in addition when describing its dynamics.
