Abstract:
In Turkey about 25% of the vegetable oils, produced in the home country are obtained from cottonseed. Therefore the fatty content, the fatty acid composition of the oil but also the protein content of the seed are predominant for a cultivation improvement. In single plants of the investigated material in the kernels maximal fat contents of 42.5% and maximal protein contents of 51.4% were found and the highest amount of linoleic acid was 64.8%. The fat content showed a high heritability and only a small negative correlation to the protein content so that a simultaneous increase of both substances seems to be possible by cultivation measurements.
