Abstract
The effect of leaf wetness on germination, appressoria formation, infection, and disease efficiency as well as on colony size and conidia production of Erysiphe graminis f. sp. tritici has been studied in laboratory experiments. Leaf wetness (distilled water) up to 72 h did not effect germination and appressoria formation but proportion of secondary hyphae and disease efficiency mainly due to washing-off of conidia. Droplet size had no significant effect on disease efficiency. Large droplets, however, caused significantly different sizes of colonies and spore production. A distinct inhibition of infection, colony growth and production of conidia was observed only in the presence of guttation droplets and liquid excretions on leaf pieces.
