Abstract
The effect of artificial or natural rain of different duration and intensities on retention and germination of conidia of Erysiphe graminis f. sp. tritici and their disease efficiency has been studied at various intervals and temperatures. The negative effect on infection was mainly due to the washing-off of conidia and not so much due to an inhibition of their germination and infectivity. Only after germination and the subsequent formation of appressoria and secondary hyphae, this effect was substantially reduced. Temperature plays a role by its influence on the speed of the germination process.
