Abstract
Different species of Rosaceae and Urticales and also plants from the weed flora of hop-gardens and virus indicator plants were examined in order to determine their host-status for Phorodon humuli Schrk. Weeds and indicator plants showed none of the characteristics of a host plant but in a few cases feeding was detectable, and on Solanum demissum (under artificial conditions) even colonization occurred. Humulus lupulus is the only genuine summer host, but colonization and development are also possible on H. scandens, while Cannabis sativa and Urtica dioica show an intermediate character in between hosts and non-hosts. Prunus triloba, P. cerasifera, P. persica, P. spinosa and P. domestica were shown to be suitable winter-hosts, but only the last two species are of importance, mainly the different types of plums summarized as P. domestica.
